musings of a financial nerd…

  • About

If there was a stereotypical personal finance nerd, I would probably fit the description. I revel in budgeting my money. I’m deeply in love with ING Direct and Vanguard. I drive my Civic like a granny to save gas.  I could go on, but you probably get the idea.

There’s no question that I’m passionate about finances, and there are a couple key reasons why:

1.) I believe we can manage our money with a healthy balance between today and tomorrow. Living on Ramen Noodles and reducing shower frequency to save money is frugality taken a bit too far. As for the other extreme, we don’t want to jeopardize our future by living a life of complete extravagance right now, sponsored by MasterCard. There should a happy medium.

2.) We can better express our values and achieve our goals through more conscious financial management. As an example, I care deeply about reducing my negative impact on the planet. I’m working to align my habits with this value (hence why my old-person driving habits are a win-win!).

My goal for my little piece of web real estate: To hopefully provide something unique and worthwhile to the world of personal finance, and to learn a great deal more myself.

    About me:

My name is Blake Shultice and I’m a 20 year old junior at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, an oasis among the endless corn fields. My financial nerdiness extends to my formal studies as well, and I’m working to graduate with my economics/finance (and philosophy too, as of November 2009) degree in May of 2011.
